the car is 2004 magna tw
it stalls suddenly when driving for a second or so then goes back to normal.. seem to be using too much fuel, and transmission shifts a bit kicky. throws the engine check lamp.. but not always.. sometimes it's off, sometimes on.

On TL/TW, I can guarantee that the connector you are looking for is behind the lower plastic covering underneath the dashboard just in front of your left knee as you are sitting in the drivers seat.

I will upload an image shortly.

So that I did not have to attempt to stick my head under the dash(almost impossible in my current physical condition) I purchased this:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OBD2-OBD...EAAOSwZ6dc9RJC

I purchased this in July, and my seller was a few dollars cheaper than this listing, but my listing has expired.

I paid $3.86aud including postage and GST.

The above link is the next best thing(item shown below).

By using this extension cable, which I have not needed to do as the car is running perfectly, it will be easier to ground pin #1.

Have you tried the suggestion that I provided you with in an earlier, different, thread that details your driveability problems?

didn't get to check the codes but i gave the MAF sensor connector a clean with some chemicals and air compressor
issue seems to be fixed. i hope it stays that way .. fingers crossed :p

    symptoms were
engine check light turning on and off at times.. kicky gear change, increased fuel consumption, occasional stall at load (tho not sure if thats related to this.. as it happens rarely )

Did you clean just the connector itself or the actual sensor?

Did you power down the battery to eliminate the stored codes?

the first clean didn't work.. issue came back.. today i gave it a proper clean polishing the contacts and tightening the grip of the inner pins.. but still when i moved the socket up or down engine stalled and shut down as well.. fiddling around with the socket checking cables individually and further cleaning didn't help. then i noticed when i squeeze the maf sensor it still stalled.. baffled by it, i tried to open the top cover.. couldn't.. so i removed the socket from the two screws at sides of it.. it pulls out about half a cm.. doesn't come out.. there i saw a set of contacts inside the sensor .. some were dirty... oil or something i dunno how

cleaned them up as much as i can from the tiny gap. used methanol and air compressor.. screw it back in.. booom
it doesn't stall or anything when i move the socket now or the maf sensor.. issue seems to be fixed..
i am assuming this could be a manufacture weakness and probably many sensors could be deemed faulty just because of this.. i will update the thread if issue persists...

    correction
MAF acted up again this morning, not in the same manner but still faulty. this time i opened up the top cover of the MAF, my thought of second contact pins behind the socket was wrong. these were in fact upside down L sort of terminals that are directly soldered to the female socket. hence by force pulling these outwards i had them flex/bend and then back. the fact that contactivity has changed after doing so, and maf stalling the engine when i pushed the socket downwards, could possibly suggest a cold solder joint. i reheated the solder joints to the socket. seems fine now.. but i will need to check it again tomorrow with a cold and rested engine.

i will probably end up buying a new maf.. but the timing now is just shit..

At this point, it might be worthwhile to obtain the output of error codes to more accurately attempt a diagnosis.

As you have been having ongoing problems, power down the battery first and obtain a "fresh" set of codes.

P.S. I have had great success with a second hand Air Flow Sensor.

$89 delivered 2.5 years ago and not a moments trouble since.

(**Martybugs immobiliser problem is a separate issue dealt with 100% successfully 1 year ago.)
